This article is concerned with nonformal, areconstructional or contextual explication of such notions as problem situation, (scientific) problem, kinds of problems and problem-solving. With problem-solving is connected rationality, progressiveness and acceptability of certain methodological or epistemic structures, such as theories and maxi-theories (e.g. research programme, research or intellectual tradition, research themata). Leading ideas of this paper concerning these issues (esp. growth of knowledge, epistemic appraisal of theory-evaluation, standards of rationality and their changes over the course of time) are based on views of the following philosophers of science: K. R. Popper, L. Laudan, J. N. Hattiangadi, J. Kekes, G. L. Pandit.First part of this essay has appeared in „Roczniki Filozoficzne” 34:1986 no 3.

Norwooda R. Hansona koncepcja dynamiki teorii empirycznej
N. R. Hanson's Conception of the Dynamic of Empirical Theories

The present paper deals with N. R. Hanson’s view of the structure, development and role of scientific theories.Hanson’s methodological considerations are dependent on general assumption that meta- scientifical investigations should involve a logic as well as psychology, history and sociology of science but without confusing the methods of these sciences. In this research programme Hanson sought a simultaneous solution of the heuristic and pragmatic problem of how to precisely describe the process of setting forth new hypotheses and the epistemological problem of how to provide a sound warrant for our claims about the world. For the purpose he designed a logic of discovery constructed on the grounds of retroductive inference. In this approach, theories and hypotheses are the logicolinguistic representations of our understanding of the relations between phenomena. The main role of the theories is to provide an explanatory context in which physical phenomena appear as understandable, intelligible and comprehensible.

Bioelectronic Aspect of Enzymatic Catalysis
Bioelektroniczny aspekt katalizy enzymatycznej

Reflections upon the Human Experience of Time

The article of Elżbieta Wolicka is consecrated to the consideration of the phenomenon of time taken in the contexts of individual human experience, contemporary cultural situation and Christian faith. The starting point of the 1st part of the article is the fragment of Confessiones (ch. XI) of St. Augustine and the short parable of Franz Kafka entitled HE.The author of the article brings to the light the dialogical basis of the human perception of time and raises up the quaestion of "a hidden sabotage of trust” which is characteristic to the social relations of our times. This is also the one among many other factors of the so called "crisis of culture” (mal du sidcle). The crisis consists of a feeling of a threat, a burden of the past and a fear of the future. The 2nd part of the article is concerned with the analysis of the eschatological meaning of some words of Christ in the Gospel of St. John (4, 23; 5, 25-29; 12,13; 12, 27, 31). They reveal the Christian sense of the human temporal condition in the light of ”the economy of salvation” and the dialogue between a believer and God.A catastrophic thrill, a feeling of existential paradox, a blockage of communication — the symptoms of the crisis of cultural conscience - could be described as "the eclipse of God” (M. Buber) or ”the abandonment of God” (J. Ellul) in the contemporary world. The Gospel points out that in the heart of human temporal experience there is still existing conversatio sacra and the presence of God in our history is actual.

Ze śmierci do zmartwychwstania:
Refleksje paschalno-eschatologiczne
From Death to Resurrection

The paper presents some introductory remarks on the so-called vertical model of eschatology which sees the beginning of the resurrection of man at the moment of his death. The author deals with this problem in the light of Christ’s paschal mystery. First he tries to reflect on the roots of faith in the resurrection of the martyrs immediately after their death. For this purpose he interprets some Old Testament texts and New Testament data (above all Mt 27:51-53) bearing witness, respectively, to the resurrection of the martyrs, and of ’’the saints" (hagioi) after the death of Christ. The priority of Christ’s resurrection is strongly stressed in relation to the resurrection of the other people. The author favours the opinion that the resurrection of man begins at the moment of his death. A special attention is focused on the problem of "full corporeity" in the process of resurrection, with reference to the official statement of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (1979). The paper shows next the link between the Eucharist and the resurrection, understood as the fulfilment of the whole of human life. A physical concept of human body should yield to the personalistic understanding of it. Finally, the problem of two eschatological models, both horizontal and vertical, is discussed at length. The complementarity of the two models seems to be the most appropriate solution. The author stresses also the need for an eschatological mystagogy of admiration, amazement and astonishment.

Dzieje człowieka i ludzkości w oświetleniu Jana Pawła II teologii ciała

Wolność i trwanie człowieka w służbie wartościom według Romana Ingarden
Freedom and Duration of Man in the Service of Values According to Roman Ingarden

| cited by
The paper presents Roman Ingarden’s conception of human freedom and, which is essentially related to freedom, the conception of human being in time. The first chapter shows that for Ingarden freedom understood as self-dependence and independence of external conditionings is the condition of moral responsibility. In the second chapter some remarks of the Polish phenomenologist have been elaborated which remarks point to that that such freedom can be enjoyed only in the "service of values". This "service" is, according to Ingarden, an essential characteristic of human nature. The third chapter shows a relation of the problems of freedom with the question of time characteristics of human existence, which we find hidden in Ingarden's treatise Man and Time. Ingarden says that freedom from time opens up to man only when he is depending on values.
