The article explores the idea that Augustine’s understanding of Christendom is compatible with the practice of the art of medicine, and that bodily health plays a more prominent role in his understanding of salvation than previously thought. The article addresses these concerns with reference to the different perspectives from which Augustine views the body from 386-395: metaphysical, biblical, and empirical. It examines three aspects of Augustine’s early works that pertain to the care of the body: his own experience of illness and his acquaintance with doctors, his conception of the natural order and the art of medicine, and the extent of his knowledge of medicine.

In the article a discussion on Jerôme Ferrari’s Novel, Sermon sur la chute de Rome, is presented, highlighting the Augustinian ideas and quotations that the novelist presents in his work. At the end of the article an analysis and a translation of the Sermon on the Fall of Rome invented by the novelist is presented.

The article deals on how St. Augustine reached the conviction that it is convenient to believe in God, in what the author calis the «Proto-Confessions». It presents also why is it convenient to believe in contrast with the false Manichaeans promises. Also some parts of the profession of faith, as they are presented in util. cred. are underlined. The apologetical reasons of why it is convenient to believe, such as St. Augustine presents them in util. cred. are also discussed in the article.

The article highlights a few defíning elements that constitute the contours of a framework within which late antique Christian martyrdom may be adequately understood. The article has two parts. In the first one it sketches a more general picture of some major characteristics of the Christian theology and veneration of martyrs. In the second, as illustration and concretization, it focuses on Augustine of Hippo and his role in the debate about Christian martyrdom.

The article deals with the evolution of the idea of God in St. Augustine, analyzing the text of ord. 1,1,2, stressing the answer that Augustine gives to the ideas of the Stoics, Epicureans and Neoplatonist, and comparing the text with Enneads III,2,1. It also discusses St. Augustine’s arguments about the existence of God developed in lib. arb. Finally it focuses on St. Augustine’s commentaries on Ex 3:13-15, underlining the two names of God, the nomen æternitatis and the nomen misericordiæ.

The article discusses how Pauline Bible Texts are used in De Fide contra Manichæos, a polemical treatise attributed to Evodius of Uzalis. The article presents an introduction to Evodius of Uzalis, some preliminary remarks on De fide contra Manichæos, discussing the title, the authorship and the structure. Afterwards, the authority of Paul in De fide contra Manichæos is discussed, underlining the role Paul plays in Evodius’ creed, the idea of the origin of evil, the consensus between Paul and other Scripture, the correct interpretation of Paul regarding specifically the virginal birth of Jesus, and the resurrection of the flesh.
