Metoda transcendentalna: Obiektywność poznania i jej kryterium. Omowienie koncepcji B. J. F. Lonergana
Transcendental Method

In the article — on the basis of B. J. F. Lonergan*s works — the way is presented in which problems of objectivity of human knowledge and obviousness as the criterion of truth can be solved in the contemporary transcendental philosophy.1. An analysis of cognitive actions discovers their three levels: the level of experience, intelligence and reflection. They differ with respect to their quality, but they are also connected functionally, which creates a dynamic structure, making the cognition of all cathegories of beings possible.2. Objectivity of cognition, guaranteed by the intentionality of its acts, is a property consisting of the empirical, normative and absolute components. Unlimited intention of cognition and its virtually unconditioned results point to this objectivity.3. At the present stage of the development of philosophy, the objective obviousness — understood in the traditional way — can no more serve as the definite criterion of truth. According to Lonergan the truth of a judgement can be guaranteed by a sufficient reflexive insight. And this insight is sufficient for the given judgement if a) it first views the judgement as conditioned, b) it recognizes the conditionings of the judgement, c) it notices their fulfilment. An absolutely certain basis is supplied here by the obvious cognition of the acts of consciousness. In conclusion the author expresses the view, that the question of the possibility of cognition of the real world by the transcendental method in its contemporary version, should be answered positively. Hence the critics of the transcendental method should discuss the question: is there really a need to use this method, which is not so simple as the objective method.

The article is concerned with various problems connected with the logics of temporal clauses. In the first part of the work the motives of the rise of this type of logics in the 1950-ties are pointed to. In the second part the systems based on Kt are presented and analyzed. Some problems connected with the construction of these calculi are mentioned. In the last part a definitionnally new functor, called time implication, is introduced. Inquiries connected with fixing the criteria of construing systems of temporal clauses logics useful for sciences and philosophy are made.

Problematyka istnienia w Philosophia prima sive ontologia Chrystiana Wolffa
The Problem of Existence in Philosophia prima sive ontologia by Christian Wolff
view |

| cited by
The research on Ch. Wolff’s philosophy done by historians of philosophy is mainly concerned with his theory of being completely identified with essence. Essence reduced to notional, uncontradictory and mutually undetermined elements is already wholly complete, and hence to understand being, it is unnecessary to cognize existence. So it is believed that in such a philosophy there is no room for the problem of existence. This is why Wolffean theory of existence is usually left out from articles. The author of the present paper shows, however, that in Wolff’s basic work, Philosophia prima sive ontologia, there are many interesting texts discussing the problem of existence.Although Wolff refers the readers who are interested in the sufficient reasons for the existence of vorious beings to other works on his metaphysics, in his very Onthology he partly discusses the problem. Moreover, there are texts which make possible understanding of his theory of being, which is nominally defined as a complement of possibility, and which let one reconstruct his views on the relation between existence and essence of a necessary being and theory of existence of an accidental being. For Wolff there is a basic difference between existing (esse) which is characteristic of things or beings understood as objects of definition, and Existence (existent ia), which is identified with a complete determination of being. The author of the article considers the latter notion only, and he finds that for Wolff the essence of a necessary being is itself the reason of its existence, since it is an attribute of this essence, and attributes result from essential definitions in a necessary way.On the other hand, in accidental beings, existence is only a modus of the essence, which depends on external causes. In the essence of an accidental being there is only a possibility of its existence. The author of the article proves — contrary to Bergmann — that it was Ch. Wolff, and not A. Baumgarten, who first explicitly argued, that the accidental being exists, when it is completely defined or when it has all the essentials, attributes and modi. Such a full determination of being also decides about its individualization. The author of the paper considers various intrasystematic difficulties, which arize as consequence of such a notion of existence. The possible being, owing to its essence, passes on to the really existing world at hie moment of completing the whole set of modi by reaching the last of them. This last modus is not a different in its structure existential modus, but one of the many, different in every being, a modus, which accidentally completed the whole of modi and in this way became complementum possibilitatis, deciding about the real existence of the being. For Wolff existence is not an act, or perfection of a higher kind, but only a logical attribute, the last of predicates about being. As a complement of the possibility of essence, existence always stays on the level of essence, and as to its ontic value, its is something tertiary in being.
