ABOUT THE SOCIETY

The Society for the Philosophic Study of the Contemporary Visual Arts was founded in 1989 by philosophers frustrated with the difficulties of finding venues to publish articles and host presentations on the philosophical dimensions of film. The SPSCVA now holds regular sessions at APA regional meetings and its journal, Film and Philosophy, has published over twenty volumes of original scholarship. The Society's activities increase understanding of motion pictures as a significant art form worthy of careful aesthetic analysis.
